Georgeanne Jackson, MSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I enjoy working with individuals and couples who wish to bring a greater sense of purpose to their lives and to create personal relationships that are rich and rewarding. My personal style is direct with humor and warmth. I work in partnership with clients to build on their insight, strengths, and support systems to address a variety of life challenges.

I do not believe in one approach for everyone.  Therefore, I apply a broad spectrum of knowledge, experience and training to respond to the unique requirements of each individual, couple and situation.

Specialties

My areas of specialty include couples counseling, sexual intimacy, sexual problems, depression and anxiety, family of origin issues, and dealing with life transitions, including midlife issues.  I am also trained in and practice EMDR therapy.

Individual Therapy:  Bringing day to day life more into alignment with one's dreams is often what individual therapy is about.  Life presents many challenges.  How we address those challenges and what we tell ourselves about them makes a big difference in the quality of our life.  Depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss can all be addressed in individual therapy.

Couples Therapy:  Couples therapy can be the ideal way to rebuild and/or strengthen a relationship.  Knowing that your partner is committed to working through issues is a major step to rebuilding hope.  The results of neglecting a relationship show up in many different ways-from deep sadness about the loss of closeness to having affairs- wounding both individuals.  As we work together clients grow in their ability to identify and interrupt negative patterns, to enhance communication and to build a deeper intimacy.  Couples also come to therapy for guidance and support in ending their relationship in the healthiest way possible.  Clients may be married, unmarried, gay, lesbian or straight.

Sex Therapy:  Sex therapy allows clients to address the challenges of maintaining and enhancing the excitement of sexual desire while nurturing the safety and routine that love and domesticity require.   Clients can learn ways to explore the desires, fears, shame, and excitement that make up their erotic energy.  Sex therapy also addresses physical, emotional and psychological barriers to participation in sexual intimacy.

EMDR Therapy:  EMDR is an information processing therapy.  It can be very effective in processing past experiences that may be triggering emotions, sensations and behaviors in the present.  It has been shown to be effective in processing traumatic events.

Clinical Training
Since completing my Masters degree in 1996, I have received advanced training in the following areas:

  • Sex therapy:  training through AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists), workshops with Esther Perel and through The Berman Center in Chicago.

  • Relationships: Training with John Gottman, Pragmatic Emotional Therapy for Couples with Brent Atkinson, Couples Sexual Style workshops with Barry McCarthy.

  • Continuing education in depression, and anxiety and its impact across the lifespan for individuals, couples and their families.  Also conferences and trainings on pornography and its impact on relationships and individuals with Patrick Carnes.

  • EMDR training.
